Once again, I fell prey to the latest trend in skincare. This time, we're talking about The Ordinary brand. I'd seen a review on their super affordable, yet full coverage foundation on YouTube and I wanted to grab one in my shade immediately. After checking out their website and discovering their highly rated skincare products, I purchased a few items to test out myself.
It's been two months since I received my items and have been testing them out. Continue reading for a short and honest review on each product!

This packaging though? 😂 I wonder what the delivery guy thought? 🤔 |
Right off the bat, I love their packaging. The "abnormal beauty company" cardboard box was such a fun surprise to come home to. The individual packaging is also very minimalistic and visually appealing (looks high end, but the prices are not!)
What I ordered (L-R)
AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution (30ml)
High adherence silicone primer (30ml)
100% Organic cold-pressed Rose Hip seed oil (30ml)
Coverage foundation in shade 2.1P (30ml)
I wanted to start off with a small order since it was my first time trying the brand. I bought my items off the DECIEM website, which carries The Ordinary brand as well as other beauty brands.
Coverage foundation in 2.1P $6.90
It only took one YouTube video to convince me to buy this foundation. For less than $7 you can get a full coverage foundation, beauty guru approved? Yes please!
The hard part was deciding what shade to order since I couldn't swatch it. The coverage foundation comes in 21 shades, for all skin types AND undertones. It's great having so many options! But it can also be very tricky when it comes to matching the perfect shade and undertone to your skin type online. I looked up as many swatches and review videos as I could until I decided that 2.1P (medium with pink undertones) was the best match for me.
I absolutely love this foundation! The base is kind of mousse/gel-like and it applies so evenly. I use two full pumps and it covers up my all my imperfections. I like to apply it using a brush and then blend it out using a damp makeup sponge. Another cool feature this foundation has is that the dispenser has a lock feature. This ensures that you never have to worry about a leakage if you plan on traveling or carrying it in your bag.
This has become my go-to foundation for events since its full coverage and long-lasting. I don't wear it daily because I don't want that much coverage on a regular basis. But as far as the finish, it always blends into the skin nicely and looks natural. I want to try their Serum foundation next.
AHA 30& + BHA 2% Peeling solution $7.20
Now I'm no chemist, but what I can say from pure common sense is that you have to do your own research when it comes to acids and chemical peels. My skin reacts well to glycolic and salicylic acid, so I thought I would bump it up and try out AHA/BHA. I wanted something that would really speed up the peeling process of my dull skin, and this peel was a Godsent!
I apply it all over my face and leave it on for no more than 10 minutes. It looks like the vampire facial and feels like one million mini knives are stabbing your face. It stings a lot, but nothing that is unbearable. I usually leave face masks on for longer than the suggested time, but since this is a chemical peel- I don't exceed the 10 minutes.
Results are not immediate with this product. I have tried it once a week for four weeks and I saw my skin gradually change. My acne scars were lightening up, my skin was looking and feeling smoother and I was barely breaking out. I didn't want my skin to get used to it and lose its effects, so I took a two-week break (and I'm already breaking out lol 😅) I guess you could say my skin really loves this stuff.
I still have 2/3 of the bottle left so I know it will last me a long time, but it's definitely on my reorder list!
100% Organic cold-pressed Rose hip seel oil $9.80
Move over, coconut oil! It seems that this year, Rosehip seed oil is the talk of the town in the skincare world. Known for it's moisturizing, anti-aging and healing benefits, rosehip seed oil was at the top of my list for my skin woes.
I am going through this bottle so fast! This oil doesn't clog my pores and is super moisturizing. I like to apply it after my moisturizer, and sometimes I like to mix it into my night cream as well. I only use this oil at night since I don't know how my makeup would sit on top of it (I'm assuming that wouldn't end up well lol). I use it every other night and definitely plan on repurchasing it once I'm done with this bottle, which will probably be soon!
High-adherenece silicone primer $4.90
I'm just going to be super honest here and tell y'all that the only reason I purchased this product was because it was the cheapest one and would get me to qualitfy for free shipping 😂 I wish I wasnt being a cheapass and ordered something I would actually like to experiment with instead of this primer (especially because I already have a holy grail primer). I barely use this primer because:
A. I'm still using my Glossier Priming Moisturizer
B. It's not hydrating enough
This is a pretty standard primer. I don't use it enough to have any cons to mention but it doesn't wow me. It's definitely not on my reorder list.
Final thoughts
Overall, I think The Ordinary is a great brand. I love how simple yet straightforward the company is with their products. And what I love most is how affordable the line is. Let's hope they don't bump up their prices once the rest of the world discovers how awesome this brand is!
There are a bunch more products I hope to try from this brand, like the salicylic acid and lactic acids- as well as their serum foundation. I also found out that Sephora now carries some of The Ordinary products, which is awesome! I can't wait til they expand the range and bring them in stores to test out before purchasing.
Have you tried any of The Ordinary products? Leave comments down below!
Thanks for reading!
