January Favorites (2019)

It's been such a long time since I shared my monthly favorites with you guys! If you follow me on Instagram, I have a series called "Empties" where I do mini-reviews of makeup/skin/hair products that I used up and...EMPTIED! It's become a quick way for me to share my thoughts on beauty products and I feature them on this highlight (make sure to check it out and follow me!) But since I want that old thang back (blogging), I decided to do an old fashioned monthly favorites post on the blog! So here we go.

I didn't have that many products to share this month because A)I've been breaking out and B)It's been such a boring month. I stayed home most of the time, a.k.a. I've been makeup free which means I didn't try a lot of different looks. With that said, I did discover these items that I constantly reached for and will continue to favor for a while.

First up, is my Skin Gel with Aloe Vera from GNC ($2.99)

When I tell you guys this winter has wreaked havoc on my skin, I'm not kidding. Then again, every season does me dirty 😭 But the winter has dried my skin out to the point where I need all the moisture and healing a girl can get. During "that time of the month" I broke out in huge pimples and I noticed my acne scars were more prominent than ever. My skincare at the time (vitamin C serum and cream) were not strong enough so I had to retreat back to something that worked for me in the past: Aloe Vera.

I picked up this aloe vera gel from GNC, which is where I get my daily face cream from. I thought I could use both products in conjunction. As you can see in the picture, the gel is just like the actual aloe vera plant, which turns a brownish color over time. I apply this straight to my freshly cleansed face, morning and night. I even apply 2 layers before applying a cream on top. After using this consistently for almost 2 weeks, I have noticed the texture of my skin become much smoother, and my scars have lightened up a lot. I'm already on my 2nd tube and I plan on continuing this regimen.

PS Candy Floss blush ($4 from Primark)

I was curious to try this blush because the packaging reminded me so much of the Kylie Cosmetic blushes. When I swatched this particular shade in the store, I really liked it. It's the perfect neutral pink shade. Not too warm, not too cool. I love wearing this on an everyday basis because it goes with any look. The blush has a great color payoff, and you need to be light handed. I love when a blush does its job properly lol.

Milani Matte Color Statement lipstick in shade "Dreamy" ($6.29 at CVS)

The winter has not only dried up my skin but my lips too. I cannot bear the idea of a matte liquid lipstick these days. I've been playing around with old school bullet lipsticks lately, and I love this matte collection by Milani. The shade "Matte Dreamy" is a gorgeous deep pink with warm undertones. You only need one swipe of this product for optimal coverage. It's so comfortable on the lips. My only con is that it does transfer- but what bullet lipstick doesn't?

An added bonus? Even when this lipstick is removed, a beautiful stain is left behind. I definitely recommend you to swatch this before buying because its one of those shades that looks different on everyone.

NYX Total Drop foundation in "Classic Tan" ($14 from Ulta)

If you read my last favorites post back in 2017 😳 (read here) you'll see that I already mentioned this foundation before. I did take a break from using it for a long while up until January. I wanted to use a product that I could customize how much coverage I had. I love the dropper application because depending on where I'm going or how much coverage I need, I am in control of how much I need to use. I forgot how lightweight, yet full coverage this foundation is. And even though we are in the winter months and I'm pale af, this classic tan shade brings back life to my skin. Love it!

E.L.F. Gotta Glow Lip Tint in "Perfect Pink" ($6 buy here)

As someone with naturally dull colored lips, I wanted something that would add some life to them. The Dior lip glow is way overpriced ($34), so when E.L.F. launched their version, I had to snag it. Since I've been choosing the makeup-free life or "no makeup" makeup looks nowadays, I prefer a tint or stain. I love how this product gives my lips the most natural hue of pink, and it makes a huge difference in my look. I would recommend this to everyone!

Rimmel Wonder Wing Eyeliner in Black ($6.99 from CVS)

This is one of those eyeliners where the applicator is meant to be used as a stamp and create an instant winged eyeliner. The first time I tried the stamp method, I absolutely hated it. In my humble opinion, I think gimmicky products as such are complete bullshit. But I looked past the tricks and actually really liked the formula of this liner and decided to give it another shot. The tip is pointy enough to use as a traditional marker liner, so I used it as that and I fell in love! The formula is so dark and matte, and it doesn't budge! I've been using this liner since November and it still hasn't dried up on me! I highly recommend this to anyone who is in the market for a liner. My tip is: use it how you would normally apply liner. Don't even try to attempt the stamp method lol.

IT Brushes for Ulta Superstar Flawless Foundation Brush (sold out)

One of my beautiful friends (Almita ♡) gifted me this brush. It was part of an exclusive collab between Ulta and It Cosmetics. Even though this specific star shape brush isn't available anymore, it's the same high quality as the rest of IT Cosmetics' brushes. It makes foundation application a breeze and the soft bristles against my face make doing my makeup such a relaxing experience 😊 thank you baby girl!!

ELF Sculpting Concealer Brush ($3 buy here)

During one of my mandatory visits to the E.L.F. store (whenever I see one lol) I was curious to try this concealer brush. The triangular shape intrigued me and I thought it would be great for under eye or spot concealing. The bristles are quite soft which is always a plus for me. I love using this on days that I use a more liquidy concealer. I'm a huge advocate for this brand so I definitely recommend trying this out! You can't beat their price for value.

Mini Bamboo earrings ($5)

I've been rocking these bamboo earrings from my local beauty supply since high school lol. When I went to pick up a few beauty goods a few months ago, I decided to check out the earrings and I saw this small pair and bought them. I figured they are light and subtle for every day. I really need a break from giant heavy hoops because I do not want to stretch our my earlobe piercings. I throw these on whenever I go out and they are so lightweight that I forget I'm even wearing earrings. What I really like about them is that they don't turn my ears green lol. Been loving these!

That rounds up my favorites for this month! Although I didn't experiment with many new products, I'm glad I found what really works for my winter skin. Comment down below if you will try any of these or already did!

Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
