Oscars 2016: Recap, Best Dressed and Awkward Moments

Last night was the 88th annual Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars. I usually don't tune into long award telecasts, but the media hype surrounding this year's #OscarsSoWhite controversy had me intrigued to see what happened (nice marketing Oscars, wink)

I think Chris Rock did a good job as this year's host. He was funny and kept the audience hanging onto every next word. But I think the dialogue was too focused on the racial divide. I understand this is one of the biggest issues we face as Americans and worldwide, but I think he took it too far.

A lot of the commentary made the audience feel uneasy, as we heard nervous laughs throughout the auditorium. Let's not forget (actually, let's all forget) the most AWKWARD moment of the night which was Stacey Dash's unwanted guest appearance. Honestly, they really could've left the jokes at Angela Bassett's Black History Minute (which was hilarious! )

Despite the subs thrown out all night and show running longer than scheduled, the winners for Best Actress, Actor and Film was my favorite part of the night! It's about time Leonardo DiCaprio won an Oscar!! Now we can retire all the Leo memes out there. We all know he's one of the best in the business.

I was really happy to see that Brie Larson won best actress. She's a great performer and it was refreshing to see someone who's been low key in the industry win an award. And of course as a journalist myself, it was the best feeling to see "Spotlight" take home the award for best film. A movie about investigative journalism that serves the purpose of justice is what the world needs to realize about REAL journalist. This is the purpose of journalism, to tell truths and be a voice for justice.

Any who, I definitely want to talk about my choices for best dressed.
From left to right: Lady Gaga, Rachel McAdams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Munn

These ladies took my breath away instantly! Let's talk about each of them!

Lady Gaga stunned in a cream off the shoulder pantsuit. As soon as I saw her I knew she was going to be my best dressed. Her old Hollywood waves and soft makeup made her look like an angel who dropped down on the red carpet. I thoroughly enjoyed her performance of "Til it happens to you" which represented the thousands of sexual abuse victims who come to a stand, including herself. Strong performance, strong presence. This woman is always winning.

Rachel looks like a gem in this teal high neck gown. Some may say it looked like a prom dress, but I think she looked perfect for this occasion. The train of the dress eloquently followed her. And for someone who is 5"4. she looked super tall! This is the kind of dress I'd like to be wearing on my engagement  night. Ahem, just saying.

Rooney Mara has always been rebellious and that bad ass girl you want to befriend. She kept her mysterious flare last night as she wore a beyond gorgeous lace ensemble with a midriff cutout and center slit. She made the look edgy by slicking her hair up in mini buns and adding strappy high heels for a little more skin exposure. This looks like the perfect wedding dress for a badass bride. Rooney knew there would be lots of cameras focused on her as she is one of the lead actresses in "Carol" which was nominated for several categories last night. She was camera ready! Yes lawd

Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney

My girl crush, Olivia Munn has done it once again. She made my jaw drop as she beamed in this beautiful blood orange dress by Stella McCartney. I usually think one sleeve dresses are tacky, but Olivia makes me want to wear one myself! She definitely knows that red is her color! She recently took to Instagram to reveal her anti-aging tips which are all natural! That earned her the title of being my #WCW a.k.a. Woman Crush Wednesday.

Who was your best dressed last night? And what were your thoughts on the Oscars? I'd love to hear them.

Thanks for reading!! xoxo
