My Rant on "Social Media Is Fake"

I spilled some current thoughts on social media on an Instagram post a few weeks ago, and thought I'd share it here too!

Woke up and chose ✨rant✨

No keeping up with the Joneses here. You see me posting my real life; things I wear, things I like/dislike, the occasional personal life tidbits. What you don't see: bad days, hard times, and the constant struggles of simply being a human. Just cause someone doesn't post it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist or they are pretending to have a "perfect" life. Cmon now, you should already know there's no such thing.

I know there are mad people who fake their life on IG, and some that even fake their image. But it all comes down to you and how you see yourself. Fill your cup and work on validating yourself instead of looking to others to do so. When you get to a point of being your #1 fan and believer, you'll see that social media can be a tool to share common interests, build community, or an outlet to express yourself creatively!!!

To quote David Foster Wallace, "You will become way less concerned with what other people think of you when you realize how seldom they do." Mfs think about you for a split second when they see your username, then go on with their day. Be/do/post what you want. Stop letting the potential judgment from others stop you from being the person you want to be. What's their judgment anyways? Lol

The people that say IG is fake are part of the problem 🤷🏻‍♀️  the ones who don't post unless something amazing is happening or they wanna humbly brag. The ones who bitterly watch every story/post with no intention of engaging, but to judge and compare. The ones who refuse to post a picture if their face/body doesn't look a specific way. If you're one of those people, then maybe you should get your ass out of here.

If it's not contributing to your life in a positive way, then definitely get off social media. Don't let it drag you down. But remember, social media is what you make it. It doesn't have to be a highlight reel and it doesn't have to be an open diary either. You can be authentic and be private at the same time. 😌

And that's on period, pooh.

Silence

We live in a time where everyone wants their voices heard. Thanks to globally accessible social platforms, those who were once silenced can now find community in just a click. People are now as expressive as ever, thanks to the beautiful shield that is social media. It's so much easier to put on a brave face and type out our thoughts/feelings and hit post than it is to walk the walk. But for some of us, the bravery transpires into real life and we get that boost of confidence we need to talk that talk and walk that walk. Either that or our "idgaf" factor increases with age.

I hated conflict growing up. I bit my tongue so much figuratively, that I actually LITERALLY used to bite my tongue in situations because I had something to say but was too scared to voice it. Whether it was friendships, family or boys, I always kept my concerns to myself until it hit the boiling point. Then I would pour out all my thoughts/feelings at once and get hit with the "why didn't you tell me before?" I got so tired of that question. It would make me feel crazy for dumping so much at once and it also made me feel guilty. I was tired of feeling like that.

Notes to myself, and whoever else might need it 🖤

It's a new month. A new beginning and a great time to start over or pick back up on working towards your goals. Stay focused, keep the momentum going and only look back for motivation.

Stuck in a Rut

post from @mollyjeannne

Current state of mind. But to be completely honest, its been like this for years. It's just coming to full capacity at this point. I've never felt more lost in life. I don't know what I'm doing with my life (as many of us feel) but how come despite knowing that I'm not the only one going through this, it feels so lonely?
